Fiber Optic Association Recognized Certified Fiber Optics Networking Classes to be offered at Collin College in Plano, TX during the week of October 2, 2023.

 

 

August 26, 2023 – The Fiber Optic Academy has announced that its campus partner, Collin College, will offer US Department of Labor recognized, FOA sanctioned, fiber optics technician courses in Plano, TX the week of October 2, 2023. This group of selected courses is an excellent opportunity for students to become familiar with the fiber optics networking industry, as well as receiving substantial hands-on techniques, the student will be prepared with fiber networking knowledge that can be used in an ever-expanding industry worldwide.  Beginning Monday, October 2, 2023, with the basic Certified Technician Course (CFOT) FOA and ending with the Certified Specialist in Testing (CFOS/T) course, the student will be given the opportunity to take the FOA CFOT Certification Exam at the end of the class sessions.  To learn more about these courses and schedule, visit: www.thefiberopticacademy.com. 

 

Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT)

This 3-day fiber optics course is designed for anyone interested in becoming a Certified Fiber Optics Technician. This program combines theory and 85% hands-on activities to prepare the student to take the CFOT (Certified Fiber Optics Technician) test that is sanctioned by the FOA (Fiber Optics Association) and given and graded the final class day. This course also introduces the student to industry standards governing FTTD (Fiber To The Desk), FTTH (Fiber To The Home, LAN/WAN fiber networks, and further introduces the student to basic fusion and mechanical splicing This course is recognized by The US Department of Labor and is sanctioned by the Fiber Optic Association (FOA). The course fee includes all books and study materials. Prerequisite: Basic working knowledge of computers. Able to see and identify small items and able to speak and understand the English language.

 

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing & Maintenance (CFOS/T)

This 2-day fiber optics CFOS/T - Certified Fiber Optic Specialist, Testing - is the FOA certification for technicians testing fiber optic cable plants and communications systems. This is a specialist application certification is intended for high level technicians involved in the testing of fiber optic components, cable plants during and after installation and troubleshooting of fiber networks. The KSAs for CFOS/T cover fiber optic testing from concept to completion, including visual inspection and cleaning, visual tracing and fault location, optical power measurement, insertion loss testing and OTDR testing. The requirements also include a familiarity with fiber characterization for long-distance, high-speed networks but that is covered in another specialist certification.  Prerequisite: CFOT Course within preceding 12 months.

 

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Splicing (CFOS/S)

This 2-day fiber optics CFOS/S - Certified Fiber Optic Specialist, Splicing - is the FOA certification for technicians splicing primarily outside plant (OSP) fiber optic cable plants for concatenation and termination. The skills focus includes cable preparation of numerous cables, fusion splicing fibers, placing splices in splice trays and then placing trays in splice closures. Splice testing with an OTDR is also covered.  Prerequisite: CFOT Course within preceding 12 months.
