Start for Free with Fiber U
The online part of your training is free. Fiber U, the online learning resource of The Fiber Optic Association, teaches the fundamentals you need before the hands-on CFOT course. Completing it first means your 2 paid days are spent on hands-on lab work and the exam. Note that a Fiber U certificate of completion is not itself an FOA professional certification.
How Our Price Compares
Many FOA-approved CFOT courses at community colleges run 3 days, with published tuition commonly in the range of about $875 to $995 (prices checked October 2026; they vary by school and change over time). Our blended format, with free online study first and then 2 hands-on days, keeps the CFOT at $598 per student and means less time away from work.
FOA Fees After You Are Certified
FOA certifications are renewed every three years directly with The Fiber Optic Association. Check thefoa.org for current renewal fees.
Ways to Pay for Fiber Optic Training
- Employer-sponsored training: many contractors, ISPs and electric cooperatives pay for their technicians' certification.
- Workforce programs: some state and local workforce boards fund training for eligible students. Ask your local workforce center what is available to you.
- Group and on-site training: train a whole crew at your location at the same per-student daily rate.
Group and On-Site Pricing
On-site classes are billed at the same $299 per student, per training day. Contact us to plan a class for your team; see on-site fiber optic training for companies.
